Mads Mikkelsen is set to star in Sirius, the feature directorial debut of Lee Smith, the Oscar-winning editor behind Dunkirk and Inception.
The Arctic-set action thriller is inspired by Denmark’s elite Sirius Patrol, a special forces unit tasked with defending Greenland’s vast and unforgiving 8,700-mile coastline.
One of the most prolific actors working in international cinema, Mikkelsen’s career spans both arthouse and studio filmmaking. His credits include Nicolas Winding Refn’s Pusher trilogy and Valhalla Rising, as well as a BAFTA-nominated performance in Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round. In Hollywood, Mikkelsen has frequently been cast in antagonist roles, appearing in films such as Casino Royale, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. On television, he earned widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in NBC’s Hannibal.
Smith won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and has also received Oscar nominations for his work on Peter Weir’s Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Nolan’s The Dark Knight. His additional editing credits include 1917, The Truman Show and Spectre.
The screenplay for Sirius was written by Tony Mosher (Mechanic: Resurrection), with the project currently in pre-production. Pascal Degove and Matt Williams will produce for Future Artists Entertainment, while Deborah Acoca serves as executive producer.
